Q&As

What Is Your Favorite Band?

Tough one, it can vary from modern artists like Dua Lipa; but I also consider myself a 70’s girl so the Rolling stones. I also really love any remixes of modern-day music and older music. I also really love electronic music, so I listen to everything.

What got you into the music business?

I grew up in Africa, isolated from everything pop culture, so I always had a massive thirst for music, and movies. When I moved to the US, I found myself gravitating towards media, and when I lived in New York I gravitated towards Artists and Repertoire (A&R), I loved watching the journey of undiscovered artists becoming famous overnight. This is where my love of music really started.

What do you feel is missing from the world of music in an academic setting and what do you think you have contributed to it?

I don’t think it should be an academic setting, it should not feel like a classroom or a chore. Learning in schools is changing, I find it odd that learning music has not evolved the same way. I’m noticing that kids, and adults want to feel like they have choices outside of Academia, and music is an amazing option. At Art of Music, we know how to mix the instruments that we teach, we make sure that most of our teachers teach more than one instrument. What’s missing is a nonacademic setting that plays to the strength of the student, not just the teacher. Students should be able to mix their passions with music, and this is what our platform should provide.

What are you achieving with EDTECH? Why do you think it is important?

EDTECH is allowing our customers to enjoy learning music their own way. Today, you have a choice to do whatever you want to do the way you want to do it. Whether it is doing it in person, online, or having someone come to you. It is about allowing us to teach our customers in the way they love best, and always considering their environment. Learning should be uninterrupted. You should be able to learn music in a flexible way. And this is what we are achieving.

What Is Your Favorite Band?

Radio Head, Led Zeppelin, Stone Roses, Bob Dylan.

What got you into the music business?

I lived with Toby, and some of the Jim Mcguire band during university in Manchester. I then became a DJ in my earlier years, which helped me understand music in a completely different way, this is what sparked my love for playing and listening to music.

What do you feel is missing from the world of music in an academic setting and what do you think you have contributed to it?

Making music is fun. It should be exciting to learn and not a chore. Today too many academic programs are dull and tiring for the youth in the modern age, we want them to be impactful and passionate.

What are you achieving with EDTECH? Why do you think it is important?

As the fastest growing academy in the region, we give our students a choice to learn through theory, or by learning songs, it is always up to them. By enabling them to have a journey through the program it gives everyone the right platform to learn, and in the way they want to.
